Agriculture is Ethiopia’s largest economic sector, contributing about 40% of the country’s GDP and employing more than 80% of the working population. The country has made tremendous strides to improve production and marketing of agriculture products.
CGIAR has a long history working with national partners to support agriculture development in Ethiopia. CGIAR is embedding its research in local value chain development and policy processes to ensure it is relevant and being used. CGIAR investments help accelerate local adoption of appropriate research-based technologies and the transfer of knowledge.
The Share Fair is a side event to the 8th CGIAR System Council Meeting (SC8) being held at the ILRI Campus in Addis Ababa on May 15-16, 2019. The objective fo the Share Fair is to demonstrate how CGIAR is working in an integrated manner to tackle local challenges of global importance with a diverse range of partners and stakeholders.
The Share Fair focuses on five global challenges:
- Living within planetary boundaries
- Sustaining food availability
- Promoting equality of opportunity
- Securing public health
- Creating jobs and growth
With over 35 displays, researchers from 11 CGIAR Research Centers present in Ethiopia will showcase how they work together in partnership with the Ethiopian government and key partners from the private sector, civil society and funders, to transform local food systems.
