Bangkok, Thailand – Experts and policymakers from across Southeast Asia convened on March 6 2025 to accelerate the transformation of food systems through planet-friendly school meals (PFSM). Under the ASEAN-CGIAR Innovate for Food and Nutrition Security Regional Program, the workshop explored strategies to integrate sustainability, biodiversity and climate resilience into school meal programs, reinforcing their role in shaping healthier futures for children while mitigating environmental impacts.
“School meals have the power to transform food systems from the ground up,” emphasized Dr. Danny Hunter, Principal Scientist at the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT. “By making them planet-friendly, we can address food security and climate change in one of the most impactful ways possible: by nourishing children with sustainable, local, and biodiverse foods.”
