In May 2026, Zimbabwe joined the global community in commemorating the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists 2026. The government used the occasion to renew national commitment towards sustainable management of rangelands and wetlands that underpin livestock production and announced plans to establish a two-hectare rangeland demonstration centre. The centre will serve as a practical learning hub for livestock keepers and community members.

Ibadan, Nigeria | April 2026: Nigeria has approved the release of SAMNUT 30 (ICGV 206228), a high-performing groundnut variety developed by ICRISAT, marking an important step toward enhancing productivity and resilience and food and nutrition security among smallholder farmers.
ICRISAT in partnership with the Fortified Whole Grain Alliance (FWGA), convened the Project Inception for ‘Advancing whole grain processing technologies and improving consumer acceptability of whole grain foods’ at its Hyderabad headquarters on 28 April 2026.
ICRISAT’s study, “Restoration potential of degraded landscapes for strengthening rural livelihoods,” presents compelling evidence from Bundelkhand, India, tracking watershed-driven transformation and showing how Pura Birdha village moved from drought-stricken conditions to water surplus.
