Northwest Vietnam is one of the poorest regions in the country. Cultitivating cash crops on sloping land in Northwest Vietnam has resulted in soil erosion, landslides, declining soil fertility and yields, and agroecosystem degradation. Agroforestry is an integrated approach that could curb land degradation and deforestation, while securing the livelihoods of rural households.
