Timothy J. Krupnik

Director of CGIAR’s Scaling for Impact Program

Dr. Timothy Krupnik brings over 20 years of research and leadership experience across Africa, South Asia, and Latin America, focused on closing the gap between research and large-scale innovation use. He is the Director of the Scaling for Impact Program, leading CGIAR’s first systemwide effort to accelerate uptake and use of demand-led, evidence-based solutions that transform food, land, and water systems, with emphasis on inclusivity, sustainability, and climate change adaptation. 

His work is grounded in systems approaches to innovation scaling that connect rigorous science with delivery pathways capable of achieving impact at scale. Previously, Timothy served as a Principal Scientist at CIMMYT, Regional Director for the Sustainable Agrifood Systems Program in Asia, and CIMMYT Bangladesh Country Representative. He also represented CGIAR at senior government levels as CGIAR Country Convener in Bangladesh. He has led major multi-Center research and scaling consortia, including the Cereal Systems Initiative for South Asia (CSISA) and Transforming Agrifood Systems in South Asia (TAFSSA). 

Timothy specializes in building high-performing, multicultural teams that advance agricultural productivity, resilience, and livelihoods through transdisciplinary research and development partnerships. Timothy has authored over 130 peer-reviewed papers and more than 200 research, policy, and capacity-sharing outputs. Based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, he enjoys scuba diving and reading outside of work.
