Marc Schut

Senior Advisor for Innovation Portfolio Management

Marc Schut is a Senior Advisor for Innovation Portfolio Management in the Office of the Chief Scientist, based in Kenya. In this role, he supports the design and implementation of CGIAR’s innovation portfolio management approach, a core component of the CGIAR Performance and Results Management Framework. His expertise lies in translating state-of-the-art innovation and scaling science into practical, evidence-based tools that enable CGIAR to manage its innovation and scaling investments more systematically and strategically.

Marc is also closely involved in the CGIAR Scaling for Impact Program, where he plays a liaison role to strengthen collaboration and synergies between the System Organization and CGIAR programs in advancing innovation and scaling performance. He is affiliated with Wageningen University, where he obtained his PhD in 2012.

Prior to his current position, Marc worked with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and led the “Improved Livelihoods at Scale” Flagship under the CGIAR Roots, Tubers and Bananas Program. He has managed multicultural and interdisciplinary teams and coordinated complex, multi-country and multi-partner donor-funded programs. Marc has mobilized more than USD 20 million in bilateral funding, authored over 50 scientific publications, and has extensive experience in financial and human resources management, partnership development, and strategic leadership. He has over a decade of professional experience living and working in low- and middle-income countries and is well regarded across donor, research, and development networks.

Marc enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters. He is a fanatic amateur triathlete and has participated in championships across the globe.
