Helen Hambly Odame

Prof. Helen Hambly is Chair of the International Potato Center (CIP) Board of Trustees since 2020. A Professor in the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development in the Ontario Agricultural College, University of Guelph. Her research focuses on capacity development, knowledge mobilization, communication and governance processes for agricultural, environment and rural development in Canada and around the world.
Dr. Hambly’s work enables multi-stakeholder communication processes and community-based technological change. This includes initiatives such as the Philippines-Canada Partnership for Nature-Based Solutions (PCP4NbS). Professor Hambly has had professional work experience in various governance and research roles with the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), The World Bank, United Nations and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC). Dr. Hambly’s international projects included work with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (Rural Communication; Farmer Field Schools Assessment), a founding member of GenArdis (Gender, Agriculture and Rural Development Information Systems), Vice-President of Farm Radio International and Vice-President of Journalists for Human Rights. She is widely recognized as an enabler of research networks and projects in Peru, Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Philippines, DRC, Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria and Ghana.
