Dr. Nizar Haddad
Director General of the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA)
Dr. Nizar Haddad became ICARDA’s Director General on 1 October 2026
Dr. Nizar is an international development leader with more than 25 years of experience in agricultural research, institutional transformation, and sustainable development, particularly in dryland environments. Before joining ICARDA, he served as Mission Head and Program Director for FAO in Saudi Arabia and as Director General of Jordan’s National Agricultural Research Center (NARC), where he strengthened scientific capacity, partnerships, and agricultural innovation.
He has authored and co-authored more than 150 scientific publications, books, and technical contributions covering dryland agriculture, biodiversity, genetic resources, climate resilience, water management, and sustainable agrifood systems.
