CIMMYT is looking for an outstanding, self-motivated, and result-oriented professional for the position of Internal Communications Manager. The selected candidate will be part of CIMMYT’s Engagement Chapter and will report to the Head of Communications.

The location of this position will be at CIMMYT's headquarters in Texcoco, Mexico.

Specific duties:

Strategy

  • Manage the Internal Communications operational plan aligned with CIMMYT’s mission, vision, and strategic goals to build reputation and maximize the policy and development impact of its research across the main target regions Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
  • Provide strategic communications counsel to CIMMYT’s researchers and Leadership Team related to Internal Communications.
  • Provide input into Chapter strategy and operational plan.
  • Manage workflows, including project scoping, prioritization, and scheduling, to ensure timely execution of all requirements.
  • Keep abreast of the latest communication trends and technologies, ensuring that the organization is using the most effective tools and strategies.
  • Ensures that the internal communication strategy is always current and effective.
  • Implement crisis communication plans to ensure that the company is prepared to respond to negative events.

Creative Hub

  • Ensure consistent brand expression and powerful visuals through creative services in all internal communications materials.
  • Coordinate production of communications materials with Creative Hub area for internal communications purposes.
  • Ensure that the company's brand voice is consistent across all regions and channels related to internal communications.

Media Relations

  • Coordinate with Media Relations Manager all activities related to Internal Communications that require media relations support.

Social & Digital Communications

  • Coordinate with Social and Digital Manager campaigns or strategies related to internal communications as needed.
  • Coordinate development and dissemination of CIMMYT's annual report.

Internal Communications

  • Manage and oversee internal communications channels, ensuring they are up-to-date, user-friendly, and accessible. This includes overseeing the intranet/Inside CIMMYT, email distribution lists, digital signage, and other communication tools.
  • Collaborate with strategic decisions on internal communications channels and tools including townhalls, intranet, newsletters, etc.
  • Connect the CIMMYT staff worldwide with clear and consistent internal communication to contribute to staff engagement and retention.
  • Create engaging and informative content for internal communications channels, including newsletters, intranet, emails, and other platforms. Collaborate with different teams to gather information, stories, and updates for dissemination among staff.
  • Change Management Communication: Support change management initiatives by developing effective communication plans and materials to ensure staff members are well-informed about organizational changes and transitions.
  • Establish and follow up metrics and evaluation methods to assess the effectiveness of internal communication initiatives and events.
  • Promote and reinforce CIMMYT's values, mission, and organizational culture through internal communication efforts and events, through initiatives that foster a diverse, inclusive, and supportive work environment.
  • Develop CIMMYT's annual report ensuring key messages are well transmitted to position CIMMYT and advocate for CIMMYT's mission to advance a more food- and nutrition secure future and amplify our impact.
  • Coordinate CIMMYT's staff events including Get Together Catalyst of Change and other internal activities.

Executive Communications

  • Develop speeches, remarks and visuals prepared for executive team communications for internal/staff activities.
  • Provide guidance and support to senior leaders on communication matters, including media relations, crisis communications, and public speaking.
  • Collaborate with senior management to develop key messages and communication plans for leadership initiatives, announcements, and updates. Assist in preparing presentations and speeches for internal events.

 Regional Communications

  • Coordinate with Communications Regional Managers to develop and implement Internal Communications Campaigns.

Administration

  • Manage the workflow and plan of the area to ensure all output and deliverables are produced cost-efficiently and according to predetermined timelines guaranteeing internal clients’ satisfaction.
  • Create a high performing team that strives for excellence and supports the CIMMYT mission for impact with a culture of shared accountability and results orientation.
  • Mentor and empower the communication team to pursue innovative approaches and set demanding metrics for engagement that deliver results in a fast-changing, competitive external communications environment and build the organization’s brand.

  • Develop and manage the communications budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively.
  • Conduct recruiting and onboarding processes to expand the team as needed.
  • Implement values and behaviors among the team, to promote CIMMYT’s culture in the Unit.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in communications or a related field.
  • 6 to 10 years of experience in Communications, with a strong emphasis in internal communications, media relations management, campaign execution, social and digital communications.
  • Strong knowledge of media outlets, journalists, content development, advocacy, media, writing, editing, and translation.
  • Proficiency in digital content management systems, social media platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in Asia, Africa and Latin America regions.
  • Experience in nonprofit or international development contexts is preferred.
  • Experience of managing internal communication channels: newsletters, intranet, e-mails and other suitable platforms.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities to manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines effectively.
  • Exceptional written and verbal English skills, with the ability to convey complex messages clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences.
