The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as a Driver. The position will be attached to International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) in Lilongwe. The initial contract will be for a period of six (6) months, with a possibility to renew depending on performance and funding.

Duties:

  • Drive IFPRI Malawi vehicles for the transportation of authorized passengers and collection of authorized items
  • Perform day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicles: check oil, water, battery, brakes, tires etc. and ensure that the assigned vehicles are road worthy and maintained up to the established security standards
  • Perform minor repairs and arrange for other repairs in liaison with administrative assistant and ensure the vehicles are kept clean.
  • Ensure the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accident
  • Log all trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing etc
  • Ensure assigned vehicles are properly maintained and equipped as per technical guidance and specification established by IFPRI Malawi Office
  • Observe local traffic rules and regulations strictly
  • Ensure instructions and security guidance provided by the supervisor are strictly followed by the driver and passengers during journeys
  • Assist with basic maintenance tasks from time to time, including cleaning the office or vehicle as needed, to maintain a tidy and professional environment.
  • Perform any other administrative, operational or janitorial duties assigned from time to time

Requirements

Education: JCE and above, possess a clean drivers’ license (minimum class C), defensive driving certificate and some mechanic knowledge will be an added advantage

Experience:  At least four years driving experience, minimum experience of 3 years working with an international NGO, must be physically & mentally fit and healthy, minimum age of 30 years

Skills: Ability to read, write and speak English fluently, able to work under minimal supervision and be proactive and initiative, integrity, flexible approaches to work coupled with enthusiasm, commitment and energy, ability to work in a multi-cultural and multi-national environment, good organization and planning skills with effective time management skills, ability to perform multiple tasks and work under pressure with a wide range individuals and institutions, Team player,  maintenance of confidentiality at all times, advantage and kknowledge of computer applications (MS Word and Excel) will be also an added advantage
