“Today the challenge has changed: We need to address an ever growing population, under a different climate that keeps changing, and with people who can afford more and who will want more diversity in their diets.”
In this interview, Rodomiro Ortiz, ISPC Member and Faculty (Chair) Professor of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, explains why it is time for a change in the breeding mindset. Plant breeding is still relevant but the challenge today is looking beyond productivity at the whole value chain including resource use efficiency.
