The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) has embarked on a project to return maize seeds conserved in its genebank back to the communities where the seeds were originally collected. Using a process called “rematriation” the genebank team is working with a local community in Jala, Mexico to restore seeds of a giant maize collected by scientists more than 60 years ago.
