The Phillippine Star published an article on Representative Luis Raymund Villafuerte’s proposal for a carbon tax on electricity consumption, which aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, promote the use of green energy, and raise funds for climate change mitigation measures. The Representative cited a March 2018 study completed by IFPRI researchers Alam Mondal, Mark Rosegrant, Claudia Ringler, Angga Pradesha, and Rowena Valmonte-Santos, which concluded that the Philippines could supplement 57-60 percent of its energy needs with renewables by 2040 by utilizing a strategy of carbon taxes and subsidies.
