Postdoctoral Fellow_Scaling Expert: Seeds, GAPs, and Post-Harvest Technologies

The Africa Rice Center (AfricaRice) is seeking a highly qualified Postdoctoral Fellow – Scaling Expert: Seeds, GAPs, and Post-Harvest Technologies who will be based at AfricaRice Bouake/Cote-d’Ivoire. S/He will work under the supervision Research for Development/Rice Sector Development Program.

Position purpose
AfricaRice, under initiatives such as Scaling for Impact, TAAT-2, REWARD, HealthyDiets4Africa and RIZAO, is strengthening the scaling of climate-resilient rice technologies to improve food and nutrition security across Africa. The successful delivery of quality seeds, good agronomic practices, and efficient post-harvest technologies is central to increasing productivity and reducing losses in rice-based systems. The Postdoctoral Fellow (PDF) will support the implementation of technology scaling strategies through partnerships, capacity building, and innovation delivery mechanisms. The PDF will contribute to the design and execution of context specific scaling interventions, focusing on enabling the uptake of improved rice seeds, GAPs, and post-harvest tools and techniques. The Fellow will generate evidence and learning on what works in scaling, support partnership development, and contribute to AfricaRice’s research-for-development and impact-oriented agenda.
Position responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Rice Sector Development Program Leader, the PDF will:
Assist in developing and updating country-level scaling roadmaps and work plans.
Support stakeholder consultations to identify priority technologies and suitable scaling models.
Contribute to landscape and bottleneck analyses in selected countries.
Work with national programs, seed enterprises, extension services, and equipment manufacturers to enable coordinated delivery of technologies.
Facilitate field-level scaling pilots and demonstrations of technology bundles (seeds + GAPs + PHTs).
Support the contractualization and capacity strengthening of scaling actors.
Contribute to action research on effective scaling models, adoption behavior, and enabling
environments.
Collect, analyze, and synthesize data on technology deployment, adoption, and farmer feedback. Contribute to publications, policy briefs, technical reports, and learning products.
Assist in the development and tracking of key performance indicators (KPIs) for scaling.
Support documentation of scaling cases, lessons learned, and success stories.
Work closely with M&E and communication teams to support reporting and visibility.
Contribute to the center’s resource mobilization efforts.
Ensuring risks are considered in the delivery of the assigned duties and responsibilities.
Undertake any other duties related to the position and as required by the needs of the Center.
Qualifications/Selection Criteria
Education:
PhD (awarded in the last 5 years) in Agricultural Extension, Food Science and Post-harvest Technology, Agronomy, Seed Science and Technology or related field.
Work experience and key competencies required:
Demonstrated interest or experience in innovation scaling, seed systems, advisory services, or value
chain development.
Knowledge of rice-based systems and relevant technologies is an advantage.
Strong skills in data analysis, stakeholder engagement, and science communication.
Fluency in English or French (with working knowledge of the other language preferred).
Willingness to travel to rural sites and work in multi-country, multicultural teams.
Good ability in writing and speaking, in both English and French.
Able to work independently with high solution orientation
Good management capacity
Perfect usage of the Microsoft ICT tools
