The International Water Management Institute (IWMI), a CGIAR Research Center, is seeking a motivated candidate to to join its dynamic team in Tashkent, Uzbekistan as a Finance and Administrative Assistant.
The Finance and Administrative Assistant will support both the financial and administrative operations of the Blue Peace project, ensuring all processes are compliant with donor, partner, and internal guidelines, while facilitating smooth day-to-day project implementation. This includes processing financial transactions, maintaining records, monitoring budgets, supporting financial reporting, and handling administrative logistics.
The role requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environment.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Related to Finance,
- Assist in the processing of all financial transactions, including payments to vendors, reimbursements, and receipts, ensuring their timely and accurate entry into the financial system.
- Ensure the completeness, accuracy, and proper organization of all financial documentation by maintaining well-structured digital and physical files, regularly updating accounting records, assisting in reconciling discrepancies, and supporting procurement-related financial documentation and compliance.
- Track project expenditures against budget allocations, support the Administrative and Finance Manager in identifying variances and potential financial risks, and help maintain budget tracking tools and financial dashboards, as applicable.
- Support the preparation of financial reports by compiling relevant data, coordinating with program teams, and ensuring timely submission for internal, donor, and audit purposes.
- Support audit processes by preparing required documentation, ensuring compliance with donor and organizational policies, and assisting in the implementation of audit recommendations.
Related to Administration,
- Support the day-to-day administrative operations of the project office, including organizing meetings, workshops, and events.
- Provide general administrative support to the Finance and Admin Manager and project team, and perform other related duties as assigned.
- Assist with travel arrangements, visa processing, accommodation bookings, and logistics for staff and consultants.
- Manage office supplies and maintain an up-to-date inventory of equipment and stationery.
- Liaise with service providers and vendors to ensure smooth operation of office utilities, maintenance, and related services.
- Maintain accurate personnel records, including staff timesheets and leave tracking.
- Ensure digital and physical filing systems are well organized and regularly updated.
- Coordinate the collection and dispatch of correspondence, documents, and parcels.
Requirements
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
Essential,
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 1 – 3 years of relevant experience in finance and administration, ideally within an NGO or development project environment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Essential,
- Familiarity with financial reporting standards and audit procedures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial software such as SAP or other ERP systems.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- High level of integrity and professionalism.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines under pressure.
- Strong team spirit with a willingness to support colleagues when needed.
- Discretion and respect for confidentiality in handling sensitive financial and administrative information.
- Excellent oral and written language skills in English including effective listening and strong verbal and written communication abilities.
Desirable,
- Knowledge of Russian and/or Uzbek is an advantage.

This is a nationally recruited position and only Uzbek nationals will be considered. The duration of the contract will initially be for a period of three years with the possibility of extension.
