The Vietnam National Institute of Animal Science, with technical support from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) and the World Health Organization (WHO), held a forum to mark World Food Safety Day on 7 June 2025. This year’s theme was Food safety: Science in action.
The event welcomed more than 200 university students from Hanoi Law University and the Women’s Academy, who joined open forums and debates that reflected growing youth engagement in food safety and science-based policymaking.
The key message of the forum placed science at the heart of food safety, calling for stronger collaboration among governments, producers, academia and consumers to apply science-based solutions that improve public health and build more sustainable, resilient food systems.
Food safety is a significant public health concern in Vietnam, with challenges such as microbiological contamination, pesticide residues and unauthorized additives posing serious health risks and limiting the global competitiveness of Vietnamese food products.
