IITA and China Agricultural University (CAU) have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in agricultural research, technology exchange, and capacity building. The MoU, which aims to foster research cooperation between Africa and China, was signed by Dr Simeon Ehui, IITA Director General and CGIAR Regional Director for Continental Africa, and CAU President Qixin Sun.
The agreement sets the stage for a beneficial partnership focusing on exchanging expertise in critical areas such as biotechnology, genetic improvement, mechanization, natural resource management, and plant health. Additionally, the collaboration will extend to food technology, agricultural economics, rural development, and youth engagement in agribusiness across China and African nations.
One of the key objectives of the MoU is research and knowledge exchange. This will facilitate the exchange of scientists and researchers between both institutions, including training doctoral and post-doctoral fellows. Joint research efforts will focus on topics of mutual interest in agricultural innovation and sustainability.
