CGIAR System Board Appoints Dr. Lindiwe Majele Sibanda as a Voting Board Member

The CGIAR System Board has appointed Dr. Lindiwe Majele Sibanda as a voting Board member. Dr. Sibanda is an award-winning and noted academic, thought leader and practicing farmer.

Among her other roles, Dr. Sibanda currently serves as Professor, Director and Chair of the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) Centre of Excellence in Food Systems at the University of Pretoria, and co-Chair of the Global Alliance for Climate-Smart Agriculture (GACSA) hosted by the Food, Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. Previously, she served on the EAT-Lancet Commission on healthy diets from sustainable food systems and as a member of the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) Policy Advisory Council.

“Lindiwe will complement and strengthen the System Board with her strong scientific background, extensive food systems experience, and connection to a wide network of partners,” said Marco Ferroni, Chair of the CGIAR System Board. “We look forward to working with her and having her valuable input as we embark on a key year in the One CGIAR transformation.”

Dr. Sibanda is familiar with CGIAR, having previously served as Board Chair for the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), Board Member of the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), and program advisor to the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), International Water Management Institute (IWMI) and the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS).
