Advancing Gender Equality in Food, Land and Water Systems by 2050: The CGIAR GENDER Report 2026

The latest report from the CGIAR Gender Equality and Inclusion Accelerator, Advancing Equality, Transforming Futures: A Path to Resilient and Productive Food, Land and Water Systems in 2050, was developed in the context of the International Year of the Woman Farmer. It explores pathways and offers practical solutions for making food, land and water systems (FLWS) more equitable, inclusive and resilient by design, with a focus on advancing opportunities for women and young people by 2050.

The report shows that a more equitable future for FLWS is achievable, and that the evidence and tools to help make it a reality already exist. It identifies five interlocking pathways for lasting, transformative change: making women visible; ensuring policies and programs are gender-aware and responsive; addressing the intersecting constraints that shape experiences of inequality; confronting the power structures and asymmetries that limit participation and influence; and securing sustained investment in gender-transformative change.

Realizing the full potential of these approaches at scale means challenging the power structures that contribute to exclusion. As the report highlights, women, youth, and socially excluded groups can move beyond beneficiary roles to become decision-makers, innovators and drivers of transformation across FLWS.

The findings offer practical insights for researchers, policymakers, development partners, investors, and practitioners working to place gender equality and social inclusion at the heart of the transformation of our food, land, and water systems.
