While high-level policy discussions are crucial, the true measure of a livestock master plan lies in its impact on the ground, which requires effective implementation.
A recent learning visit to Tanzania by officials from Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, facilitated by the livestock master plan team of the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), offered powerful insights into how strategic planning can translate into tangible benefits for farmers and the private sector.
Tanzania’s successful livestock master plan was developed in 2018 with support from ILRI and is a strong example of how government-championed initiatives can transform a sector, thus the need for the study tour by the Nigerian delegates to have a first-hand view and learn from Tanzania’s success.
The Nigerian delegation paid a courtesy call on the Permanent Secretary of Tanzania’s Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, Hon. Riziki Shemdoe, who expressed enthusiasm for sharing Tanzania’s journey with Nigeria.
