Initiative:

Foresight

Bangladesh

The CGIAR Initiative on Foresight aims to conduct research on the future drivers and implications of food-land-water system transformation, and to identify policy and investment priorities to make agri-food systems more inclusive and sustainable. These drivers include technological, structural, demographic and climate change, as well as public and private investments and policy reforms. Our local partners’ expertise in agricultural economics and policy make them uniquely positioned to contribute to the Bangladesh-focused work of understanding these drivers and how they are affecting poverty and food security outcomes.

Our objectives in Bangladesh are:

  1. Research partners in Bangladesh contribute to developing a Country Integrated Assessment Model (CIAM) and use it to analyze megatrends and climate risks affecting food-land-water systems transformation, and to provide actionable recommendations that minimize trade-offs and maximize synergies across competing goals.
  2. Government partners in Bangladesh use foresight analysis of food-land-water system drivers, including climate risks, to inform policy debates and enhance decision-making, leading to policies/investments, such as national development and adaptation plans, that encourage food-land-water systems transformations that are more resilient, sustainable, and inclusive.
