Initiative:

Aquatic Foods

Delivering gains from genetic improvements in farmed fish through public-private partnerships

This work focuses on the rapid development and delivery of improved fish strains including tilapia, carp and catfish (which account for 84 percent of fish farmed worldwide) and their uptake in countries where (i) aquatic foods are nutritionally important to large numbers of low-income consumers and (ii) the potential for aquaculture is high. Priorities are to improve the productivity, profitability, and environmental performance of aquaculture systems, that are disease and climate-change resilient, and that meet low-income consumers’ demand for nutritious food.
