Based in Nairobi, the Hub brings together CGIAR and regional partners to turn promising innovations into coordinated, responsible pathways to impact.
Why this hub
Home to a wealth of development and finance organizations, startups and enterprises, and some 30 scaling experts from CGIAR Centers, Nairobi is the natural anchor for an African scaling agenda. Yet the scaling ecosystem remains fragmented, with knowledge, tools and approaches scattered across organizations and silos. A new Nairobi Scaling Hub helps to close this gap by providing a convening and co-creation space for scaling partners across East and Southern Africa.

A welcoming space for researchers and scalers, for government officials and funding agents, for private companies and civil society, to work together to speed agrifood transformation in East and Southern Africa.

What we're doing
Located at the campus of the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) in Nairobi, the Hub offers a physical space to learn and co-create. Alongside bookable hot desks, offices and meeting rooms, it provides tailored scaling advice and hosts CGIAR-wide initiatives such as the Scaling Fund, Science of Scaling Webinars, and CGIAR Scaling Week.
Successful partnerships
The Hub is a methodological resource for national research systems seeking to bring their innovations to market. For example, it supports the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) in unlocking the potential of Kenya's indigenous chicken breeds, developing scalable delivery models that link research, production and markets — enabling improved genetics to reach farmers through strong public-private partnerships and coordinated value chain development.
The Hub is open to all CGIAR staff and its partners. It is expanding its collaboration with CGIAR's other Scaling Hubs, the International Innovation Hub, GIZ, and KALRO and invites other organizations to join this new collaborative scaling space.
