The Poverty Health and Nutrition Division (PHND) of the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks two (2) qualified candidates to serve as Research Analyst. This is a two-year exempt, renewable appointment. The positions will be based in the Regional Office in Dakar, Senegal. Final position titles will be based on experience. The Research Analysts will work with a larger team on various research projects in Senegal, Burkina Faso, and/or other West African countries, including impact evaluation projects involving household survey data collection and analysis. Interested applicants must have work authorization to work in Senegal.

 

Essential Duties:

Specific duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • The organization, cleaning, manipulation and analysis of large household data sets
  • Assisting with the development and implementation of quantitative surveys, including questionnaire development, field team training, and development of software applications for recording interview responses on tablet computers
  • Overseeing field work in rural areas of Senegal, Burkina Faso, and other West African countries
  • Preparation of tables and graphs for reports
  • Collaborating on analysis of survey data with the research team
  • Assistance in the preparation of project contracts, deliverables, briefs and papers
  • Collaborate and communicate with implementation partners
  • Organizing and analysing qualitative data
  • Other duties as assigned

Required qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Statistics, Biostatistics, Public Policy, Epidemiology or equivalent
  • Three years of relevant professional experience following the master’s degree are required at the RAII level
  • Demonstrated experience working with large quantitative data sets (data cleaning, management, analysis, etc.)
  • Advanced STATA skills, including programming
  • Excellent knowledge and experience on quantitative evaluation methods
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and produce completed products on time
  • Experience working in the field either conducting trainings, overseeing data collection, or project implementation
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel
  • Fluency in written and spoken French and English

Preferred skills:

  • Experience with data entry and CAPI software packages (CSPro, Surveybe, SurveyCTO, etc)
  • Fluency in spoken Wolof, Mooré, Dioula or Bambara
  • Training and experience in methods for designing and conducting causal impact evaluations, including randomized controlled trials (RCT)
  • Experience in survey design and questionnaire design
  • Work experience related to gender, health, diet, nutrition and agriculture.  
  • Knowledge and experience in qualitative research methods
