Job Summary

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a Research Analyst II or Senior Research Analyst I for a full-time one-year, renewable appointment in its Development Strategy and Governance Division (DSGD).  The analyst will provide support to IFPRI’s country modeling team in a broad range of areas, including research support, data and statistical analysis, economic modeling, communication and dissemination, and capacity strengthening. The country modeling team conducts policy impact analysis and supports policy and investment prioritization in developing countries in Africa and Asian using economywide models and other analytical tools. The position is based at IFPRI New Delhi Office and is renewable depending on performance and funding. Final grade level will be determined by number of years of relevant work experience.

Essential Duties:

• Conduct literature reviews and syntheses; assist in editing and/or co-authoring discussion papers, donor reports, and other knowledge or information products, including websites and blogs.
• Assist in analysis of a wide range of data sources, including household and firm surveys, government financial statistics and budgets, national accounts data, international trade statistics, and balance of payments data; produce associated metadata or data documentation files.

• Assist with development of research instruments and analytical tools; develop associated model documentation and manuals; conduct statistical, econometric, or modeling analysis and interpret results.

• Interact with collaborators and project partners; organize and/or participate in technical or dissemination workshops in virtual or in-person settings at headquarters or in the field.
• Support efforts to strengthen capacity in partner organizations to develop models, undertake modeling, and formulate policy recommendations.

Additionally, at Senior Research Analyst I level:

• Interact with and, as appropriate, directly manage the work of collaborators.
• Manage technical components of projects, with increased responsibility and latitude for decision-making.
• Interact with funding agencies and develop research proposals under the guidance of supervisors.
• Present, discuss and negotiate research proposals and results with funding agencies, government officials, and other interested parties

Required Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Statistics, Public Policy or a closely related field, plus a minimum of three years (Research Analyst II) or five years (Senior Research Analyst I) of post-Masters’ relevant experience.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct literature reviews for academic publications or research reports.
• Demonstrated experience in conducting research in developing country settings, especially Africa and/or Asia.
• Demonstrated ability to perform quantitative data analysis, undertake statistical and/or economic modeling analysis, and interpret findings; exposure to statistical and programming languages such as STATA or GAMS
• Demonstrated experience in effective interaction and coordination with collaborators and project partners.
• Strong interpersonal skills and experience working in a team-oriented, multi-cultural environment; ability to work independently, with initiative and minimal supervision; ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and manage time.
• Demonstrated fluency in written and spoken English.
• Ability to travel internationally

Additionally, at Senior Research Analyst I level:

• Demonstrated ability to manage projects or research programs, and to organize and facilitate technical workshops and trainings.
• Experience in research proposal development and negotiation of research proposals with funding agencies.
• Demonstrated ability to develop terms of reference of collaborators and other partners involved in research.
• Demonstrated ability to present research findings to funding agencies, government officials, and other interested parties.   

Preferred Qualifications:

• Demonstrated ability to construct social accounting matrices (SAMs) for developing countries
• Demonstrated aptitude with simulation modeling, including economywide computable general equilibrium (CGE) modeling conducted at country or subnational scales; and/or demonstrated aptitude to conduct advanced statistical or econometric analysis using household or firm surveys.
• Highly skilled in data or statistical analysis using STATA and/or programming in GAMS
• Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality written reports, journal articles, oral presentations, blog posts, and other forms of written and oral communications associated with scholarly research outputs.
• Proficiency in a second language of the U.N. system
