The Africa Rice Centre (AfricaRice) is seeking a highly qualified Consultant who will be based in Benin. He /she
will work under the supervision of the project Coordinator.

Job purpose
Under the Leadership and supervision of the CORIS (COVID 19 Response Rice Seed) Project Coordinator, the
Consultant will assure the availability of certified rice seed in Benin and support the project Coordinator.

Responsibilities
The CORIS Project Consultant is responsible to supervise: i) the production of breeder, foundation, certified rice
seed in Benin, ii) support the CORIS Project Coordinator in all project related activities, iii)support the impact
monitoring. S/He will conduct activities with specific tasks that include, but are not limited to:

Breeder seed Production
• Supervision of the production
• Weekly report in an Excel form in MS teams about the concerned fields: Size, Varieties, expected yield,
water situation, Expected harvest (date, weight, varieties). Challenges
• Biweekly visit of the fields
• Report on drying and packaging of the breeder seeds one photo of the breeder seeds per ton and variety
• Sorting of problems with contracting partners, government, Farmers
• Documentation with certificates of the seeds
• Networking with Ministry of Agriculture, CARI, GIZ – GIC and other partners

Foundation seed production
• Supervision of the production
• Weekly report in an Excel form in teams about the concerned fields: Size, Varieties, expected yield, water
situation, Expected harvest (date, weight, varieties). Challenges
• Weekly visit of different fields with all producing structure (max 8 companies)
• Report on drying and packaging of the breeder seeds one photo of the foundation seeds per ton
• Controlling of information in the digital agricultural management tool
• Sorting problems with contracting partners, government, Farmers
• Documentation with certificates of the seeds
• Networking with Ministry of Agriculture, CARI, GIZ – GIC and other partners

Certified seed production.
• Supervision of the production
• Support companies with developing a marketing strategy and applying for marketing incentive
• Weekly report in an Excel form about the concerned fields: Size, Varieties, expected yield, water
situation, expected harvest (date, weight, varieties) challenges based on Digital agricultural management
tool, field visits, reports
• Weekly visit of different fields with all producing structure (max 8 companies)
• Controlling of information in the digital agricultural management tool
• Report on drying and packaging of the certified seeds.
• Sorting problems with contracting partners, government, Farmers
• Documentation with certificates of the seeds
• Collaboration with the hired fieldworkers
• Networking with Ministry of Agriculture, CARI, GIZ – GIC and other partners

Baseline study for impact assessment
• Collecting Data of yield and varieties of the partner structures and their clients of the years 2020 and
2021 during project visits
• Support and instruct baseline study team from AfricaRice (20 days base line study before end of the
project)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Qualifications/Selection Criteria
Education: Master’s degree or equivalent in Agriculture, Social Sciences or related fields
Work Experience and key Competencies Required
• Work experience in the rice sector or seed production
• Collaboration with National Agricultural Research Systems or International Research Centers, Development
Partners as GIZ, CARI or similar
• Good ability in writing and speaking, in both English and French or at least working knowledge in the other
language.
• Good management competences
• Result driven personality
• Able to work independently with high solution orientation
• Hands on mentality
• Capable to learn new ICT applications very fast
• Good Agricultural knowledge and seed production
• Experiences in reporting to donors
• Good management capacity
• Experiences in monitoring and controlling

Language
The candidate should communicate fluently (orally and in writing) in English or French with a good working
knowledge of the other language.

Terms and Conditions
• This is an international consultancy position.
• The initial contract is one (01) year with a possibility of renewal depending on performance and availability of
funding.
