Workshop on Enhancing Pulses Productivity in Eastern India

West Bengal, India, March 3 – ICARDA India conducted a day-long training for farmers to enhance productivity of pulses, including lentil and chickpea. The workshop was a joint effort together with the UN and a West Bengal-based university.

ICARDA and IFAD (the UN’s Fund for Agricultural Development) are working together to scale up technologies to increase the production of lentil, lathyrus, chickpea, and mungbean, covering 390 hectares of land and 2,000 farmers. As part of the workshop, farmers in five districts received improved varieties of these crops. They also learned the nutritional value of the pulses and their role in achieving balanced diet.
