Professor Lindiwe Majele Sibanda, Chair of the CGIAR System Board, received the prestigious MS Swaminathan Global Leadership Award for Sustainable Development, recognizing her remarkable contributions to sustainable agriculture and development.

The MS Swaminathan Global Leadership Award is named after the renowned scientist and pioneer of India’s Green Revolution, Professor MS Swaminathan. This award celebrates individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication to sustainable development in agriculture. Professor Swaminathan’s legacy continues to inspire and guide efforts to combat food insecurity and promote sustainable agricultural practices worldwide. 

The Official Announcement 

The award was announced today in New Delhi, in a landmark event during the 15th Agriculture Leadership Summit, with prominent figures from the agricultural community attending. Notably, Ambassador Kenneth Quinn, President Emeritus of the World Food Prize Foundation and recipient of the 2nd MS Swaminathan Award, joined the event online to congratulate Professor Sibanda. During the event, a brief profile of Lindiwe Sibanda was shared, highlighting her extensive contributions and achievements. 

Upcoming Award Presentation 

Professor Sibanda will officially be awarded on August 7, 2024, in Chennai, India, coinciding with the birthday of Prof. MS Swaminathan. The ceremony promises to be a significant occasion, bringing together leaders and visionaries from agriculture and sustainable development.
