The Provision of Adequate Tree Seed Portfolio in Ethiopia project, led by World Agroforestry (ICRAF), has so far successfully established 14 breeding seed orchards in different parts of the country. The project is supported by the Norwegian International Climate and Forest Initiative represented by the Royal Norwegian Embassy to Ethiopia.
When the project was launched in 2017, its main objective was to ensure access to high-quality seeds of the most important tree species used in restoration of forest landscapes and in all other tree-planting activities in Ethiopia.
To realize this objective, the project sought to establish orchards in five different locations in Oromia and Amhara regional states as well as in Addis Ababa, the capital. The orchards are a combination of seed-production and tree-improvement activities.
