CGIAR to be a member of the Informal Advisory Group on Technical and Scientific Cooperation of the Convention on Biological Diversity
This advisory group is a body that provides advice and guidance to the Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity and other relevant stakeholders on the promotion and facilitation of technical and scientific cooperation in support of the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework. This is a valuable opportunity to continue to advance CGIAR’s advocacy efforts for policies that support the implementation of the Global Framework.
The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity received 51 nominations from Parties and 38 from relevant organizations and selected 33 global experts to serve on the Informal Advisory Group.
The Convention on Biological Diversity, led by the United Nations Environment Programme and ratified by 196 countries, has as its overall objective to encourage actions that will lead to a sustainable future. The first meeting of the Informal Advisory Group is scheduled for next June in Montreal, Canada.
CGIAR’s participation in this Advisory Group is a recognition of the efforts of a scientific team that has supported the Global Framework process, as well as CGIAR’s experience and dedication to promoting biodiversity and sustainable development.
