On June 8, 2024 the World Oceans Day network will collaborate with its global partners to celebrate World Oceans Day.

In response to the urgent need posed by the climate crisis, the focus for 2024 shifts towards catalyzing action for our ocean and climate.

About World Ocean Day

Recognizing the interconnectedness of a healthy ocean and a stable climate, this multi-year initiative aims to foster transformative collaboration at local, national, and international levels. The goal extends beyond environmental sustainability to encompass social justice and equity.

This initiative calls for robust action from government and corporate leaders, urging them to fulfill their commitments to combating climate change. Specific objectives include maximizing existing climate solutions, transitioning to clean energy sources, halting fossil fuel extraction, particularly single-use plastics, amplifying the voices of local leaders, and protecting and restoring coastal and ocean ecosystems.

These collaborative efforts seek to establish strongly protected areas covering at least 30% of lands and waters by 2030 and continue developing science-based solutions. Hosting this initiative will be a collective effort, with the World Ocean Day network collaborating with various partners globally.
