The CGIAR FOCUS Climate Security will host a compelling new series of eight webinars that explore ways climate science can better inform peacebuilding efforts and security operations in unstable regions around the world.

We’re thrilled to be joined once again by Mark Leon Goldberg of the popular Global Dispatch podcast, who will chair each webinar in the lead-up to the UN Food Systems Summit and COP26.

How climate mitigation efforts relate to peace and security is poorly understood: adaptation and mitigation interventions may simultaneously increase and decrease security for different people. The effects of climate variability, climate change, mitigation and security are particularly salient in forest areas, which are a major focus of climate change mitigation, a locus of vulnerability for local communities, and a hotbed of insecurity.
