In this independent food systems dialogue hosted by FAO and WorldFish, policy, research and development experts as well as key stakeholders from fish farmers and fishing communities, fish processors and marketers and consumer groups, came together to share perspectives and develop an agenda of solutions to address specific challenges faced by the fisheries and aquaculture sector in Bangladesh.
WorldFish’s Director General, Dr. Gareth Johnstone, led the keynote presentation on sustainable food systems transformation with aquatic foods in Bangladesh. This was followed by thematic group discussions on promoting healthy, nutritious diets, boosting nature-positive production of aquatic food systems, strengthening resilience against vulnerabilities, climate and pandemic shocks and ensuring equitable livelihoods throughout the value chains.
Towards the end of the webinar, WorldFish’s Global Lead in Nutrition and Public Health, Dr. Shakuntala Thilsted, who is the Vice Chair of the Summit’s Action Track 4 on ‘Advancing Equitable Livelihoods’ and recently named 2021 World Food Prize Laureate, shared her perspectives on ways to move forward, highlighting solutions that will feed into the development of a consolidated country report and contribute to the development and growth of the aquatic food systems in Bangladesh.
