An escalating climate crisis, growing inequality and unacceptably high rates of hunger and malnutrition urgently demands innovative and inclusive solutions. Research-driven food systems innovations can foster greater food and nutrition security and climate resilience, while also contributing to progress towards gender equality goals. However, while women’s roles in agrifood systems are essential, their contributions to nutritious diets is often overlooked and their access to innovations hindered by systemic barriers. Therefore, CGIAR’s research agenda must prioritize gender- and nutrition-sensitive innovations towards equitable, climate-resilient agrifood systems.

Jointly organized by the CGIAR GENDER Impact Platform, CGIAR Nutrition Impact Platform, and CGIAR Gender Equality Initiative, this session comprises:

  • A keynote laying out the current context of polycrises in agrifood systems and the urgent need for gender- and nutrition-sensitive innovations
  • A panel discussion on reenvisioning CGIAR’s research agenda to effectively and efficiently address growing inequalities, malnutrition, and climate change impacts
  • An interactive workshop that will discuss
  1. Socio-technical innovation bundling as an innovative methodology for gender-responsive interventions that boost smallholders’ climate resilience
  2. The gender-nutrition nexus, ensuring transformation towards climate-resilient agrifood systems, leaving no one behind

      This session aims to:

      • build awareness on the rationale and approaches for bundling context-specific, gender climate-nutrition smart socio-technical innovations in a systematic and participatory manner
      • provide a common platform for gender and nutrition researchers and practitioners across CGIAR and it’s partners to rearticulate emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities to better integrate the climate-gender-nutrition nexus into agrifood systems research

    • Jackline Makokha – Director, Gender State Department for Gender & Affirmative Action
    • Nicoline de Haan – Director, CGIAR GENDER Impact Platform
