Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) emerges as a pivotal player in the realm of global food security and sustainability. Distinguished by its remarkable array of cultivated and wild crops, the LAC region stands as a biodiversity hotspot. Notably, it proudly holds the title of the world’s largest net food exporting region, catering to the nutritional needs of over 800 million people (World Bank, 2020). The agricultural and agrifood systems within LAC’s rural landscapes are not merely economic contributors but are vital sources of income and employment. These systems bear the potential to act as catalysts for transformative change, effectively countering poverty and inequality (ECLAC et al, 2021).

Facilitating the scaling up and dissemination of innovative solutions — be they technological, financial, or policy-oriented — to address these challenges is the strategic presence of CGIAR Centers in the LAC region. Their strengthened integration, coupled with collaboration from the LAC Regional Office, the Regional Integrated Initiative, and the Global Thematic Initiatives operating in the area, has yielded a wealth of high-quality, science-based innovations. Additionally, it has resulted in tailored capacity-building initiatives and policy counsel tailored to meet the unique needs of partners in the region.

Functioning as an innovation lab, CGIAR-LAC is poised to leverage its rich experience and expertise. Its capacity to support other regions is a testament to its commitment to fostering cross-regional collaboration and exchange. This collaborative ethos creates feedback loops that not only amplify CGIAR’s impact within the region but also contribute significantly to its global influence.

The objective of this event is to showcase the successful experiences and coordinated CGIAR work of work in LAC. This information will contribute to the knowledge of the

integrated approach generated in LAC, as well as to the understanding and dissemination of successful innovations that can be adapted and replicated in other regions of the world.

The activity consists of 4 stations in a 360o format where a visual experience of the integrative work of AgriLAC Resiliente and other global initiatives from the CGIAR center in LAC with a regional and global scope will be shown. During the tour of these stations, the challenges, the activities carried out and the results and impacts generated by successful experiences will be shown. After the visualization of the experiences, a roundtable and interactive format will follow to guide a discussion on the integrative work of the CGIAR-LAC in the region.

The expect outcomes of this event are increased awareness and understanding of the successful experiences and integrated approach in CGIAR-LAC; enhanced dissemination of innovative solutions developed to address regional and global challenges; strengthened collaboration and knowledge exchange among initiatives and projects from CGIAR-LAC Centers and other regions; and identification of best practices and lessons learned for future efforts.
