Thematic Areas: Resilient Landscape

Global community have made significant efforts both on technological and institutional innovations for addressing the food and agriculture under growing climate crisis. However, most efforts are in isolation with fragmented thinking; at plot- and household level, limiting the transformative potential of technologies and investments. Low carbon regenerative landscape approach has shown potential to address land degradation, water scarcity, poverty, malnutrition and inequity by circularity of resources and enhancing ecosystem services. Also, it facilitates strengthening of associated value chains and brings system transformation. ICRISAT has 50+ years of rich experience on developing regenerative landscapes for transforming agri-food systems in vulnerable regions across Africa and Asia. The science evidence generated together with diversity of partnerships will be shared during the workshop to catalyze the discussions. This can help policy planning and development actions for sustainable and resilient agri-food systems in the global south. The key focus of the workshop will be on, how do we bring the systems change using landscape approaches for transforming food, land and water systems within planetary boundaries. The key elements of the workshop will be on sharing science evidence and use cases focusing on below aspects-

  • Water-nutrient-carbon flow through landscape
  • Socio-economic impact
  • Value chain, markets, governance, policy
  • Partnerships
  • Capacity needs
  • Monitoring
