CGIAR @ FAO Science and Innovation Forum

Harnessing science, technology and innovation for transforming our agrifood systems

  • Date
    17.10.22 > 21.10.22
  • Time
    09:00 am > 04:00 pm
  • Location
    Rome, Italy
  • Registration

Organized together with the World Food Forum (WFF) and Hand-in-Hand Investment Forum, the FAO Science and Innovation Forum will focus on highlighting the centrality of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) for agrifood systems transformation, and encourage a diversity of perspectives based on science and innovation, thereby facilitating rationalization and inclusiveness of debate.

More specifically, the objectives of the FAO Science and Innovation Forum are to:

  • explore scientific and technological advances and associated risks and opportunities,
  • analyse options for strengthening science and evidence-based decision-making,
  • share robust science and evidence-based options for more efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agrifood systems,
  • support countries in making informed decisions regarding the co-creation, adaptation and adoption of appropriate and context-specific technologies and innovations, and
  • promote effective science communication, including by engaging on contentious issues.

Please join us to watch Claudia Sadoff, CGIAR Executive Managing Director, speak in the Chief Scientists’ Round table: Science and innovation for SDG2 on October 20.

Medha Devare, Chief Data Officer, Excellence in Agronomy, CGIAR, will also speak in the main stage event entitled, “Launch of Agrifood Systems Technologies and Innovations Outlook (ATIO)” on October 20. ATIO’s overall objective is to provide information on the current, measurable state of science, technology and innovation (STI) and upcoming changes, as well as their transformative potential for agrifood systems, to inform evidence-based policy dialogue and decisions, including on investments. ATIO will track agrifood system STI progress at national level, and pay special attention to low- and middle-income countries where data challenges are particularly acute. The cross-border impacts of STI necessitates looking at all countries globally, not solely at national-level conditions, so ATIO will emphasize relevant STI wherever in the world it occurs.
