Thematic Areas: Resilient Landscape, Healthy Diets, Institutional Innovations, Scaling Innovations & Gender & Inclusion

This session will showcase the CGIAR Plant Health Initiative strategy and tactics and the coordinated approach to plant health management in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) through CGIAR Centers with over 120 research, development, and scaling partners. The spotlight will be on inclusive innovations/technologies developed to combat important pests and diseases affecting crops that are important for smallholder farming systems in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as integrated mycotoxin management solutions to ensure safe foods for consumption and trade.

The session will also include a panel discussion on the growing risks of climate change exacerbating pest, disease, and mycotoxin threats to crops, and the importance of coordinated plant health management to protect farming systems, especially in LMICs, through a gender- and socially inclusive manner.

Introduction

  • CGIAR Plant Health Initiative’s coordinated plant health management strategy

Spotlight:

  • Data-driven smart tools for countering existing/emerging crop pests and diseases.
  • Integrated pest and disease management.
  • Integrated mycotoxin management, including partnerships for scaling Aflasafe biocontrol for aflatoxin mitigation in Africa and beyond.

Panel

  • Mitigating Climate-Driven Pest and Disease Risks: Collaborative Plant Health Strategies to Improve Resilience of Farming Systems in LIMCs.
