Strategic Advisory Service for Human Resources - What we Do

The CGIAR SAS HR optimizes the delivery of strategic HR and facilitates synergies through system-wide participation. As of April 2007, there are seven participating centers: Bioversity International, CIMMYT, CIAT, ICARDA, IFPRI, IWMI and the WorldFish Center. Although the participating centers (which influence the strategic direction and priorities of the SAS HR) receive preferential, center-specific support, all centers stand to benefit. Read on for more information on our services:

  • Build organizational culture: the CGIAR SAS HR helps build organizational culture for innovation and change. A value-driven organization results in staff behavior that advocates teamwork. People learn and strive for excellence – the working environment is one of trust, fairness and integrity.
  • Review and advice on policies: the CGIAR SAS HR collaborates closely with participating centers and advises them on personnel policy revisions that reflect recent needs and cover the scope of HR management well into the future.
  • Strengthen staff development: the SAS HR, Gender & Diversity Program and the CGIAR secretariat collaborated to provide demand-driven training such as the FLDP and the Senior Leadership Program tailored to meet the needs of the centers.
  • Facilitation and advice on monitoring and evaluation: Recent services rendered include:
    • advice on method for identifying performance indicators for personnel administration services
    • assessed the potential use of a Human Resources Information System for the needs of the HR community
    • survey of HR functionalities at participating centers conducted for input into the strategy. The compiled information will be distributed and may be useful for further development of the HR community.
  • Good practice notes: Collaboration with various CGIAR system offices has resulted in efficiency and comprehensive support for innovation and change, including training and communication initiatives. Good practice notes are currently underway.
  • Provide center-specific service: SAS HR assists participating centers and provides direct advice regarding structure, processes and people and their roles. Where appropriate, advice can be shared with other participating centers.
