In June 2007, HR managers from across the CGIAR came together on ICRISAT’s campus in Hyderabad, India, for the SAS-HR Working Group Meeting. The event, which was piggybacked onto the CGIAR Gender & Diversity Program’s annual jamboree, provided an opportunity to update participants on recent SAS-HR activities and inform them of plans for the second half of 2007.
Led by Unni Vennemoe, Director of SAS HR, the meeting examined the various sub-projects that comprise the One Common Policy discussed at the HR Forum in Mexico in March 2007. HR Managers from the seven SAS-HR participating Centers set goals and defined activities for these sub-projects and were tasked with identifying team leaders and drawing up plans to move some of these endeavors into action over the next six months.
Two sub-projects will be undertaken concurrently, each taking about one and a half years to complete. It was agreed to implement the ‘Common Values’ and the ‘Staff Development’ sub-projects together. As they approach conclusion, two other sub-projects will be set into motion. A set of principles for the Expatriate Benefits Package, another sub-project under the One Common Policy, were agreed upon and will be used to harmonize the Package across participating Centers.
In other developments, the First Level Leadership Development Program (FLDP) will be conducted in Southeast Asia and Rome before the end of the year. One has just been completed at CIMMYT, Nairobi this June. There is also a follow-up FLDP module and a Spanish language version of the Program in the pipeline.
SAS-HR Project Coordinator Meena Arivananthan will coordinate these projects with guidance from the HR heads.
