First Level Leadership Development Program (FLDP) in Nairobi

FLDP in Nairobi
The First Level Leadership Development Program (FLDP) was recently conducted amid the lush greenery of ICRAF’s campus in Nairobi, Kenya. Organized mainly for staff in the region, the CIMMYT-hosted event attracted participants from CIMMYT, ICRAF, ICARDA and the WorldFish Center. The program was deftly led by Hay Group consultant Sharon Crabtree with assistance from co-facilitators David van Eyck (IWMI) and Meena Arivananthan (SAS HR). nformal feedback obtained from the 15 participants at the conclusion of this June program was positive. A follow-up survey revealed a similar response: participants felt their expectations had been met. In addition, most staff were able to successfully apply FLDP techniques in the workplace to help motivate and manage staff.

Getting the Most Out of the FLDP
If participants are to reap the full benefits of the FLDP, they need to make sure the diagnostics are completed, and not only by them, but also by the people nominated onto their teams. It is also important to have the right people nominated in the right categories. Ideally, the nominated manager, direct reports, peers and clients should be informed of a participant’s plans to attend a leadership development course so they can provide feedback to help him/her improve.
