Expert Advisory Committee Meeting (EAC)

August 29 th – 30th 2008, Bioversity HQ, Rome, Italy
This is the 10th annual meeting of the CAS-IP, Expert Advisory Committee. This committee is composed of IP professionals both internal and external to the CG who serve as an advisory board to CAS-IP.

CAS-IP National Partners Initiative Meeting

July 2nd-5th 2008, Rome, Bioversity, HQ, Italy
2nd Meeting for the CAS-IP National Partners Initiative, a chance for the groups formed in 2007 to reconvene and write new work plans for 2008-2009.

This workshop is part of the CAS-IP National Partners Initiative.

The Annual IP managers/IP Focal Points Meeting

June 30th - July 1st 2008; Rome, Bioversity, HQ, Italy
The Annual IP Managers/Focal Points meeting is an opportunity for CGIAR centres’ IP managers to meet, report on their year’s activities and share problems and solutions with their peers.

CAS-IP Training Programme on Intellectual Property Rights relating to Agriculture

31 March – 1 April 2008; ICRISAT-Patancheru
This 2-day event will provide a basic training programme in IPRs with a focus on agriculture. Topics to be covered will include; IPRs in agriculture, Copyrights, Trademarks, Patents, Patent search, Plant Variety Protection (including the Indian legislation), Transfer of Technology, IPRs related to biotechnology and the International Treaty on PGRFA and its developments.

Proposal Writing Workshop for the CAS-IP National Partners Initiative

February 18th-22nd 2008; Serdang, MARDI, HQ, Malaysia
Days 1 & 2 of the workshop participants will learn techniques to write effective proposals and concept notes with the view to increase funding for implementing NPI* activities at the national level. There will also be time available for working on more general NPI activities with the CAS-IP team members and CG partners present.

“CAS-IP & the Centres: Leveraging Resources & Building IP Capacity”. A side-event at the CGIAR AGM

How is CAS-IP helping centres and the CG system to deal with the important issue of IP management? The presentation includes “Stories from the front line”, IP management experiences from some of the CG Centres, such as ICARDA, ICRAF, ICRISAT, IWMI & WARDA

Tree Genetic Resources and Intellectual Property Management - Legal and Social Issues of Handling Germplasm

5th November 2007; ICRAF HQ, Nairobi
The objective of the workshop is to introduce IP in the context of small enterprises, discuss the importance of legal issues and agreements/licences and provide examples of the use of trademarks, PVP, and certification systems as tools for marketing and returning value to farmers/producers and germplasm suppliers.
