Switzerland became a member of the CGIAR in 1971, after participating in the Group's first meeting in May of that year. Switzerland's official support to the CGIAR is provided through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. In February 1995, the Government of Switzerland hosted the CGIAR Ministerial-Level Meeting in Lucerne.
