CGIAR Members
Membership of the CGIAR is open to international organizations,
governments, and private foundations that support the mission
of the CGIAR, participate in policy making, and provide support
for the conduct of research at the fifteen international Centers.
The CGIAR partnership includes 25 developing and 22 industrialized
countries, 4 private foundations, and 13 regional and international
organizations that provide financing, technical support, and
strategic direction. The Food and Agriculture Organization
of the United Nations (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural
Development (IFAD), the United Nations Development Programme
(UNDP), and the World Bank serve as cosponsors.
CGIAR members contributed US $426 million in
2006. Individual members make voluntary contributions to the
Centers and programs of their choice, allowing funds to be
targeted to areas of research and regions that align with
development priorities. Independent studies consistently demonstrate
that CGIAR research earns handsome returns.
