International Development Research Centre
The International Development Research Centre (IDRC) was a founding member of the CGIAR in 1971, its President W. David Hopper served on the first CGIAR Technical Advisory Committee, and later as CGIAR Chairman. The Centre served as the implementing agency for the establishment of both the CGIAR's International Crops Research Institute for the Semi Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) and International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), and was also instrumental in establishing the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) in 1978, and Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) in 1993.
