Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations was a founding member of the CGIAR in 1971, and remains one of the Group's four Co-sponsors, hosting the Science Council and its Secretariat, and until 1994, the CGIAR's International Board for Plant Genetic Resources (IBPGR). Responsibility for the CGIAR is vested in the FAO's Sustainable Development Department.
