Egypt
Egypt became a member of the CGIAR in 1995. Its official
support to the CGIAR is provided through the Ministry of Agriculture
and Land Reclamation. The CGIAR's International
Center for Living Aquatic Resource Management (ICLARM) operates
its regional program on fisheries out of a large research
and training facility at Abbassa which was provided by the
Government of Egypt in 1995. And the International Center
for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) maintains
a regional office in Cairo, which serves as the base of its
Nile Valley and Red Sea Programs. Cairo was also the site of
the CGIAR 1997 Mid Term Meeting.
