China
China became a member of the CGIAR in 1984, although its
formal collaboration with CGIAR Centers began in the early
1970s. Six CGIAR Centers maintain offices in Beijing, and
eleven CGIAR Centers have collaborated with more than fifty
Chinese partner institutions. The Government of China hosted
the CGIAR 1999 Mid Term Meeting in Beijing, where the Secretariat
of the China Leading Group for Coordination of China-CGIAR
Cooperation was established in the Chinese Academy of Agricultural
Sciences (CAAS). China's official support to the CGIAR is
provided through the Department of International Cooperation
in the Ministry of Agriculture.
