Belgium
Belgium became a member of the CGIAR in 1971, after participating
in the Group's first meeting in May of that year. It's official
support to the CGIAR is provided through the Directorate General
for International Cooperation in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The CGIAR won Belgium's King Baudouin International Development
Prize in 1980 for its contribution to the qualitative and
quantitative improvement of global food production. Using
the proceeds, the CGIAR established its own biennial King
Baudouin Award in consultation with the Belgian government,
to acknowledge outstanding agricultural and related research
at CGIAR Centers.
