Martin Kropff

Martin Kropff has been the Rector Magnificus and Vice Chairman of the Executive Board of Wageningen University and Research Center (Wageningen UR) since 2005. However, his career with Wageningen dates back to 1984, when he was appointed assistant professor at the university. He then went on to become full professor Crop and Weed Ecology, and then Director General of the Plant Sciences Group of Wageningen. He was also scientific director of the university’s C.T. de Wit Graduate School for Production Ecology and Resource Conservation for four years.
From 1990 till 1995, Martin was the systems agronomist at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in the Philippines, where he led an interdisciplinary program on the introduction of systems analysis and simulation in rice production research with 15 interdisciplinary teams in nine Asian countries.
Martin obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biology at Utrecht University and a PhD in agricultural and environmental sciences at Wageningen University in the Netherlands, both cum laude.
